From Your Community Bank: Built By The Community, For The Community!

Krista Gonzalez, Expert Contributor

A community bank is a depository institution that is typically owned and operated locally. Therefore, community banks have a deeper understanding of the needs of their customers and can provide a more personalized experience than their larger counterparts. Community banks focus on the families, farmers, and businesses in the neighborhoods where their account holders live and work.

Community banks generally offer relationship-based banking, such as checking and savings accounts, personal and small business loans, and home mortgages, with more personalized customer service and products tailored to the needs of their community. At most community banks, you will find better borrowing rates and lower fees, with quick approval processes. Not only is there a direct benefit to you as the account holder, but there is also a benefit to all account holders in your community. Deposits are turned around and invested back into your neighbors through small business loans, which in turn helps your community continue to thrive.

From the teller who sits next to you at a church service on Sunday to the loan officer that shops at the same grocery store as you, the employees of community bariks are your neighbors. Because community bank officers and employees call your community home, they focus their acts of service and charity on local individuals and organizations in need. You are all invested in the same place, in the same things, and have the same desire to strengthen your community.
